iPad vs coming Android Tablets
Published by MartinVarsavsky.net in General with No Comments
While everyone talks about the iPad – the iPad does have its shining moments – I do believe, in the end, there will be more Android tablets than iPads. Just as, soon, there will be more Android smartphones than iPhones sold around the world. What convertibles are to transportation, the iPad is to computing. There are moments in which you adore your iPad and nothing else will do. But in general, the iPad is too limited and I am convinced there will be Android tablets that will allow you to do many more tasks in a tablet format.

In this video I argue that the iPad is great, but that the Android Tablet will be even better.

Thanks for the video and thoughts. Although I`m a Mac addict I agree that the iPad is a convertible and a Google pad will give us a lot more freedom, specially for the ones using Google Apps.
Saludos 😉

Hi Martin,
yesterday two Berlin-based start-ups presented an alternative to the iPad. The WePad: http://wepad.mobi/en
It will be launched in August 2010 and will be much more flexible, e.g. allowing for multiple applications, it has USB ports, an Intel processor, etc …

I am writing this on an iPad – and I can not see the video. But to compete with the iPad it will not be sufficient just to have Flash support …

Unfortunately, Apple & Google have a commercial & marketing punch than other companies/foundations would want to have for themselves. And this is the point why Moblin will not success in Tablet market, altough it has better features.
I hope future will seem more to Moblin than to iPad or Android Tablets.

Will your enthusiasm for a Chrome/android tablet mean that you will include cloud printing support in future fonero firmware?
I hope so.
cheers

ths is a great “test” but i think the idea of the “convertible” is not the point. my believe is: the ipad is not for the private user. it is for sharing information in companies, or like somethng that you will find in a conference room. something everybody is allowed to use to make some notes, or check something on the internet. hospitals will use it, doctors will share informations and so on.
i see myself sitting in a cafe, or in ther barber shop. and there is an ipad i can use to surf or to read something.
you will find it in every waiting room or lounge while waiting for your flight.
it will develop to – maybe – the most unpersonal gadget in the world.

You could try the following vid to get the mouse through Bluetooth to control the ipad.
The nice thing about this is that you can use the iPhone as the mouse 😉

I’m also waiting for an android tablet. I think android is (or will soon be) more versatile than IPhone OS. Google is definitely working on it now. But they have to find a way around the typing process because yes it is true it’s very uncomfortable to input text on tablet-size-like gadgets.
IPad is more a multimedia experience (books, videos,…) while a productivity tablet would be very welcome!
