How long does it take for Innovation to become commonplace?

This is a very interesting video of a TV news show filmed in 1981 that predicted that some day we would get our newspapers and magazines online. We are still not there yet and it´s 28 years later. I find it interesting that the commentator says that the newspapers are doing this without any idea of how they could make money with it and this became the biggest problem for newspapers. In Spain, last week alone, 2 newspapers closed down: Metro and ADN, and two others, ABC and El Mundo, laid off around 500 journalists.

As for so many questions the answer is …IT depends! Mobile phones became a standard in no time while the e-book is still on the making after years and years. Frankly, mobile phones are easy, fun and plenty of advantages while the e-books I have seen do not beat Guttemberg’s work.

well, it’s not actually an innovation until you actually do it. Having an idea or a concept without implementing it is only part of innovation.

Great video, thanks for posting it!
It’s really amazing to witness what the pioneers of the newspapers online were thinking when they launched (“an experiment”, not sure how to make money), and to see the technology involved (dial-up through the phone handset, green monochrome monitors).
I like the smog comment at the end from the host: high costs “… won’t be much of a competition to the $0,20 street edition”. Little could anyone imagine at the time the advances in technology (newspapers online, with video, instantly available on the web) and the decrease in costs to virtually zero.

Innovation is a process that has no structures, I came by qeu no scientific method that is rigid, so the media and new business at the moment are not the real business on the internet:)
