At FON Labs we built FON Get Simple or Fon.gs, that like Tinyurl allows you to make a long URL into a short address, but makes it also easy to remember, since you can choose your own address like www.fon.gs/empirestate (while tinyurl used to give you meaningless characters as an address). Recently Tinyurl released the same feature, allowing their users to choose a “custom alias” for their links. I guess we’re even.

All sort of “url shortening web sites” allow that. See http://smallr.net or http://bit.ly. All of them with better APIs than fon.gs
You all copy yourselfs would be more accurate. 🙂

You could still be one step ahead of them by allowing the ability to edit where the URL points to, a very useful feature. So you can create http://fon.gs/martin and change where it points to in the future, or fix it if you have made a mistake. Very easy to implement by just adding a custom pw. field. Cheers.

We’ve got a few easter eggs on http://icanhaz.com that allow us to have more namespace (as such).. a free url to anyone who finds one 😉
