I keep reading about the two iPhone misteries that ain´t so. One is that there´s enormous demand for the iPhone in the States and shops ran out of them (I tested this myself 10 days ago in San Francisco), the other one is that UK and French iPhone sales are dissappointing and shops are full of them. Journalists go on and on about how much Europe loves Nokia or other meaningless theories of Apple rejection. When are writers going to put the two together and realize that a good part of the enormous amount of iPhones sold in the States are in Europe? Apple has a pricing policy that encourages this. Apple prices its products in euros and in dollars as if the currencies were very close to each other and not $1.55 to 1 euro. But the kind of people who can afford Apple products can also afford a trip to the States. If you buy a MacBook Air for example you can pay your airline ticket on the price difference alone. So Apple sales in the States overstate American consumption and Apple sales in Europe understate European consumption on all products but especially the iPhone.

HI,
I appreciate your unique perspective of the Apple pricing strategy in terms of Euro~Dollar exchange rates. Moreover, another important aspect to analyze is that Apple iPhone has reinvented the entire cell phone industry. It has been placed as a luxury product associated with some status symbol in the community of mobile users. In that race of “show off” people are extremely cautious of having a latest iPhone. So I think another reason for low sales is that people are waiting for the latest 3G enabled iPhone to exploit its data usage experience better.
Cheers,
M

In the business of porn where I move, we all have Iphones. It’s funny, you go to a meeting and they all have it. It’s almost a cliche.

And remember that there are many countries in Europe where iPhone is not officially available, like in Poland where I live.
So private import is the only option.

Ohm, you say you live in Poland, so do I. I really want to buy the new iphone 3G since it is only 200$ and my current phone is crap. My sister will be visiting the states soon enough and she will be able to buy me one, the only question i have is if it wll work in poland or not?
