The La Fontennas are signal extenders that stick to windows, are the size of a PSP and boost your La Fonera’s WiFi coverage by 10 times more than what it is now. Today we started an e mail campaign directed at our most successful Foneros, those who capture the most roaming linuses and aliens to try these out for free. If you live in a high density area and think you qualify but did not get one please write to me with your name and address. I do not promise to deliver one to everyone but I do promise to spend some time looking up the location in our maps and give out at least 100 to my readers.

Hi Martin,

I think every “active” Fonero should get the Fontenna for free. Even in areas with a low density the Fontenna could extend the number of potential users. I will definitely not pay for an additional antenna as it offers no advantages for me. But it would for your company…

Bye,
Jan

Hi Martin,
I totally agree with Jan.
Even if I understand that it is “better” for the company to offer a fontena to a fonero living in high density areas, it also creates some kind of discrimination between foneros… and (I want to believe that) it’s not really in line with the Fon’s spirit.

Hi,
I haven’t received email from Fon because i’m not a successful Fonero but i would like to give bigger coverage in our square. When will be the Fontenna available at the Fonshop?

I agree with the above, I think people that have the Fon router’s connected all the time and live is a populated area should also get the Free Fontenna, even if they had no connection, as the reason why they don’t get them is because there’s not enough range on the router

Just I thought.

I completely disagree with the other 2 posts, and am wondering when they will be available to purchase.

There’s a caravan park just past next door that I can probably cover.

I’d love to have a Fontenna. I sent you an email

Anyway I hope Fon goes for cheap shipping this time instead of taking forever to process orders then using expensive expedited shipping.

Hi

I have received the email and think it’s a smart move from fon since I am in a good location with 3 café with a lot of persoons having laptpops within my range and I hope I will be able to bring them traffic.

However they tell me to go to the shop to use my voucher but in the shop I cannot see the fontenna.

It must be a matter of days I imagine.

looks like only 10 people requested the la fontenna or is it just other didn’t comment 🙂
anyway i think giving la fontenna only for big density area sounds a bit discriminative…
i hope to be in the 100 ones to try 🙂
mail sent thx in advance even if my request isn’t validated and keep going fon

Hi,

Good idea to develop the Fon network to broader locations !

I hope this thing will not radiate more than 100 mW EIRP, otherwise it’s ILLEGAL in many (european) countries.

Don’t forget that 2.4 GHz ISM band is a “no-rights” band where official users are allowed (2.4 GHz is an amateur-radio band all over the world), and where wifiers are just “guests” who should not jam official users.

WiFi band is now a big radio-fog, exactly like channel 19 on Citizen-Band, years ago, where you have to use more power and bigger antennas to say hello to your neighbour.

It’s now exactly the same on 2.4 GHz band : noise, noise and noise… and how to get out of the noise : more power (which creates more noise)… and so on…

It’s just no sustainable to a long term…

Steph,

The request is through my email martin@fon.es, not through the comments. And we got many! We have people looking at Google Earth to see which addresses are more interesting for coverage to give them away for free. But others will be able to buy them for very little compared to all the other wifi antennas sold in shops.

As you can see, at present time there are six Foneros in Stiphout, from which only two appear with a green light (I don’t understand why my FON access point doesn’t have a green light).
Maybe Stiphout is not an interesting area, but if you give me an antenna, I might be the first with a strong signal (sent you a request by mail yesterday).
Greetings

Sidi,

I am sorry that your fonera does not appear with a green light. This is happening in many points and we are trying to understand why. In any case we will send you a Fontenna.

Hi,

I live in France in a great town just neer Valenciennes and called Onnaing.

If you can, I were very happy to receve a fontenna for extand the network on the great road in front of my house. My house is 20m behind the road and the signal is too small for the persons who want to connect.

Tank you so much

Jacques
