Today we are launching fonero.be together with our partners Scarlet and Tidings in Antwerp Belgium. Fonero.be is a new ADSL wireless broadband provider, and by combining their innovative WiFi services with the FON Community, Fonero.be customers and Foneros can easily connect to Internet using WiFi around Belgium and for a discounted price. Pricing for this service is 29.95€ per month for 6MB service. Thanks to teaming up with Fonero.be, and Scarlet as ADSL and voice supplier, the Belgian market will provide a dense network of FONspots that are not only important for Foneros in Belgium but also those who visit Belgium.

Most ISP providers here in Belgium are cable companies. Why? Because everyone has a subscription to cable TV, but not all people have a land telephone line since cell phones are ubiquitous. OTOH, 30 bucks for 6 Mbs, that’s OK. I pay 25 Eur for 768 Kbps and a download volume of 2 Gbps.

Both are Adsl isp’s giving a max of 6mbit/s
But for thesame money Edpnet only gives 20gbyte/month while Fonero.be gives 30gbyte… so if you value your money AND want a free fonera you know who to choose 🙂

What about fondoo.net? They’ve been marketing DSL to UK Fonero Bills since last year. One of their TOS expressly permits the resale of the internet service through systems like Fon. You might at least make the effort to officially partner with them.

#4, couldn’t agree more! We would love to be more aggressive in our marketing, but we kind of need Fon along for the ride with us. Part of the problem is that we are not part of Europe from the Fon point of view! The UK is the 51st state of the USA it seems:-)

Hello,
I’m a member of the Technology Watch working group of a Belgian Government agency: ‘Agence Wallonnes des Telecommunication’.
We do believe and promote initiatives such as FON and within that context, we do offer a FON access within our Agency but also outside our building.

Indeed, we did install our first Fonera such as it spread onto the Namur (Belgium)’s Parc Marie Louise.
I do invite you all to access this free bandwith within this beautifull park. And visit our

We do plan to increase the signal coverage with a directionnal antenna.
SO Martin, if you HEAR us we would be glad to get a Fontena if you have spare ones ;-p
We do also have within our plans ideas to extend to a city wide coverage throught a partnership either with the City of with our Ministery (Region Wallone) in order to reduce the digital divide !
SO again Martin, I’ll contine this discussion thru private mail exchanges if you agree to do so ;-p

Two week ago, a journalist did interview the Belgian ministerial cabinet of research & technology (DGTRE) and myself on Belgian WiFi initiatives including the AWT’Fon.
AWT’s ideas behind WiFi access is to enable universal access to public information & egov services thru novatives initiatives such as FON!
My colleague Pascal Poty has also posted the news and some pics on Mobisphere

Excellent news! Next month i’ll be moving to Antwerp and i was actually hoping this was going to happen. Makes my choice a lot easier choosing a provider. Only competition i can think of right now: edpnet.be. Competitive price for a good service too (what i heard of).
