FON in Argentina and LDCs in General
Published by MartinVarsavsky.net in Fon with No Comments
Building FON you realize why certain countries are doing poorly and others well and a lot of it has to do with lack of transparency. Argentina is one example of a country in which absurd red tape rules and that is why we have around 900 registered FONeros, but very few active hotspots.
I am now in Argentina, my home country, trying to sort this out, but my decision for LDCs has been to work with local entrepreneurs who know the local way. FON simply can´t develop global expertise so quickly alone. FON will basically offer any entrepreneur from any country that is not in the EU, USA, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong and mainland China to write to us and to buy Foneras at a subsidized cost of 10 euros FOB Taiwan, Spain or USA.
So if you are an entrepreneur in any country around the world and you are able to take delivery and pay for Foneras in the USA, Taiwan, or Europe and ship them and distribute them in your own country at a profit, we will sell them to you at the subsidize price of 10 euros, but we will not try to act in your country. If you are a local entrepreneur and like to promote FON in your country and are able to import an distribute Foneras through retail or etail pls contact me and we will give you as much support as we can without acting in your country.

Martin, that is a very attractive offer! Living in Argentina and operating FON hotspots, I could definitely use more support from FON. Check out my story on Free WiFi vs. FON in Argentina at http://moolarama.blogspot.com/2006/12/fon-vs-free-wifi-in-argentina.html
