There is certainly a need for programs like this as many kids in rural areas of China don’t get access to a decent education. Back in 2001 I organized a bike ride through western Sichuan to raise awareness and money for health and education for Tibetan minorities there. Afterwards we also had a program to collect secondhand PCs from companies in Beijing and send to schools down there.

One has to wonder where the Chinese governments priorities lie when they can spend huge amounts of money on glamor projects like the Olympics or putting a man in space while the quality of health & education services in the countryside are collapsing.
