Firefox 3 is indeed the best browser I have ever tried
Published by MartinVarsavsky.net in General with No Comments
I am testing Firefox 3 on my Mac and it´s unbelievably fast. The feeling I have is that my ISP has tripled my bandwidth but obviously that is not the case. Using this browser makes me realize that speed when surfing is only partly a matter of your connection quality. Indeed before I was using Safari when I did not care so much about the extensions and all I wanted is speed. But I used Gspace a lot and that only worked with Firefox (disclosure, we own Gspace). This is what Mossberg has to say about Firefox 3.

Hi Martin,
This exact reason is why I think the iPhone launching with 2G originally wasn’t an issue for non-techie people. The render speed on my iPhone was so much faster then my Nokia that the iPhone had the illusion of speed.

Firefox 3 has increased connection parallelism. Firefox 2 used to default to 2 simultaneous connections. Firefox 3 defaults to 6.
The following URL has more details

A lot of websites (but not FON) use multiple hostnames (static0.fon.com, static1.fon.com) to help browsers make more parallel connections and show improved perceived performance
