TechTalk was great!. About a 100 people joined us – most of them from Menorca and Mallorca but some of them from as far as the US, Belgium and Lithuania all in a very laid back and relaxed atmosphere. The best links are Loic´s where you have the videos of each presentation.

Friends of mine who have met Barack Obama are raving about him and they say that I will be as impressed when I meet him. I am a trustee of the Clinton Foundation and still think that the world was a better place when the Clinton´s were mostly running it and would like to see that happen again. Having said this I am intrigued about Obama and it´s a testimonial of the power of the internet today that the only contact I have had with him so far has come through Youtube and lately because he accepted me as a friend in Twitter.

This is an invitation to the people of Menorca and my readers in general. You are all invited to attend an informal TechTalk that will be held next Saturday May 12th from 5pm to 8pm at 5pm at my farm in Menorca. To attend you need to register sending your name, email and home address to me.

Here´s a picture of the Farm

Here´s a Google Map. It shows how to get there. The event will be held in Binisegarra, the home that is in the middle of the farm.

Here are more pictures of the Farm and of Menorca in general.

Update 9/5/07: Janus Friis of Skype and Alex Straub of Truphone just informed me they will not be able to come to Menorca due to personal reasons. On the other hand, Michael Jackson, COO at Skype, will come to Menorca.

And I don´t really want to know what people are doing. I use Twitter to share my thoughts. And I would only want to hear about some people´s thoughts. What follows is an example of what I twitter.

Yesterday I met with Adam Seifer founder of Fotolog. How ironic it is that when someone comes to show you something so extremely successful yet at the same time completely incomprehensible. If someone had told me that a photo website that only lets you upload a single picture per day would get more hits than the famous Flickr, I would think they were yanking my chain. But that’s Fotolog´s story. With a mere allowance of one photo upload daily, the site has an Alexa ranking of the 26th most viewed site in the whole world while Flickr trails at 42. Adam swears by Fotolog himself, and has been using it to aliment a peculiar habit of his: photographing the food he eats, for the past five years (no, he’s not fat). When I asked Adam how uploading one photo could possibly be more popular than displaying an entire Spring Break memory card’s worth, he explained that with just one, it’s the best, and everyone sees it.

Meebo similar to the Fring on a PC idea that I had but without Skype, voice video, and file transfers it seems. Also it falls short of my other idea which was to visualize messenging platforms in a Second Life mode.

Fotolog´s founder Adam Seifer and its CEO John Borhwick came to see me. Can you believe that according to Alexa Fotolog has more visits than Flickr? The secret is scarcity. You can only upload one picture a day and that picture is so carefully chosen that a whole community is built around it. Amazing.

GML is part of the solution to my PST to Gmail question but I found it very difficult to use. I still think there needs to be a site in which you upload PST or Mbox files like you upload videos or pictures and that these show up in your Gmail or soon in Yahoo cause Yahoo will give unlimited email.

Most people work with some messenger on. But, unfortunately, the world of messaging is as the telecom world when it started, not all phones could talk to all phones. Some start ups have tried to improve this. Fring in the mobile world, Trillian in the fixed world among others.

Smart move on Viacom´s part as the video was taken down from Youtube and the show made me go to the Viacom´s Youtube like site for the first time. I guess it´s hard for geeks to go against the media industry. Still I hope Youtube wins cause as Jon Stewart says Youtube promotes the shows.
