You Got It Om!

Om Malik ran a Fonera give away campaign in his blog, by which he told his readers that he had 1500 Foneras to give away. Now, unfortunately, he did not say that these Foneras were only for readers in the States. So what happened is that the very international readership of Om started asking for free Foneras. Orders came from many countries. And not only did we get orders from many countries, but we got many more than 1500. This is what we have so far:

Now, what can we do in a situation like this? Dissapoint Om´s readers and would be FONeros? That would not be very cool. So what we decided to do is to allow all the people who are not American and who asked for their free Foneras to get one until now, 1145 GMT time, and extend the campaign in the USA until this Sunday at midnight GMT time which is 7pm EST.
Conclusion, from now on only US residents can get free Foneras and this campaign to increase fonero density in the States through GigaOM ends on Sunday at 7pm EST. To be precise at 7pm on Sunday the link that is now open to Gigaom readers that allows them to save $29.95 will stop working.

Martin, can you share what is the average monthly alien revenue that each free Fonera generates?
BTW, which US and Canadian ISPs allow paid sharing?

People that responded to become FON retailers will feel just a tiny bit uncomfortable as you keep giving away the stuff you want them to sell for you.
When will that change, and did you already offer excuses and compensation ?

This was supposed to be for USA only, but OM did not mention this and we got orders from other countries and we decided to be nice to Om and go ahead with the free Foneras for a day. Then we stopped and continued USA only.

I don´t have that data yet, but FONeros can switch from bills to linuses so you can try both and see.

Exactly Jos,
FON gives away routers in the States, because we have not started retailing there. In Japan, for example, we stopped giving them away and started in retail shops and its going great.

How could you get one “until now”?
I know I send the link to some friends, but they disappointedly clicked away, when they saw the price change as they set their shipping to Europe (Netherlands, I might have 14 friends :)).
So, if they would have ordered, it wouldn’t have cost them? How would it work?
