{"id":1301,"date":"2008-07-01T13:12:33","date_gmt":"2008-07-01T11:12:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/english.martinvarsavsky.net\/general\/how-t-mobile-uses-wifi-to-compete-with-other-wireless-carriers.html"},"modified":"2008-07-01T13:12:33","modified_gmt":"2008-07-01T11:12:33","slug":"how-t-mobile-uses-wifi-to-compete-with-other-wireless-carriers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/english.martinvarsavsky.net\/?p=1301","title":{"rendered":"How T-Mobile uses WiFi to compete with other wireless carriers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last week <a href=\"http:\/\/www.t-mobile.com\/\">T-Mobile<\/a>, the fourth largest wireless carrier in America, launched <a href=\"http:\/\/www.t-mobileathome.com\/default.aspx?WT.mc_t=TMO&amp;WT.mc_n=TatHome_teasertile\">T-Mobile@Home<\/a>, an offer that will provide its customers with landline phone service for 10$ a month, a cheaper then <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vonage.com\/index.php?ic=1\">Vonage<\/a> price.<\/p>\n<p>The service is based on a WiFi router that lets users use special mobile phones provided by T-Mobile that can route calls over the mobile network (when out) or via WiFi when at home (using a VoIP technology called <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Unlicensed_Mobile_Access\">UMA<\/a> that tunnels voice traffic over the Internet to T-Mobile&#8217;s backbone network), additionally T-Mobile@home customers will be able to plug their old landline phones to the router and enjoy the same unlimited local and long-distance calls included in the offer. T-Mobile@home is available to existing T-Mobile customers who have mobile subscriptions costing at least $39.99 per month and have a broadband connection at home.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks to WiFi and VoIP T-Mobile can compete with AT&amp;T, Verizon Wireless, and Sprint Nextel and their &#8220;all you can eat&#8221; <a href=\"http:\/\/news.cnet.com\/8301-10784_3-9884689-7.html\">plans<\/a> on a lower cost basis.
