One of the best political ads ever

Yes it´s an ad. It´s a 30 minute political ad. But considering that most US elections were won by trashing the opponent I encouraged you to see this video.

This is what Howard Wolfson, former manager of the Hillary campaign for presidency said about it.

This ad won’t win Senator Obama the election–he was going to win in any case. But it was a highly effective, well-produced and well-executed closing argument. And at a time when the McCain campaign is doing everything it can to knock Senator Obama off his game, it’s another example of how and why that task is so difficult.

  1. Impressive – hope and believe his time will come. I can´t stop worrying about how much effort the opposition will put in working against him when he is in office – hope it won´t stop him from achieving his goals.

  2. As an American – an Illinois resident, no less! – who has been out of the country for more than a year, this video makes me on one hand a bit homesick. It’s an effective advertisement, with a nice blend of media elements (stills, interviews, video vignettes). The whole piece is warm and pro-America.

But on the other hand, it’s rife with stereotypes. Like the lady who points to the refrigerator shelves assigned to her family members. This system seems to be shown as a bad thing, a sign of hard times – when that’s how plenty of people around the world lives. And, if things are so bad, why is her kid playing organized football? That’s pretty pricey… I just want to say: Maybe this mentality is why Americans are facing some of the problems they’re facing.

Anyway – that’s nitpicking. I do think Obama will be a catalyst for change.

And if it doesn’t work out for him in the States, I am quite sure Germany would hire him to be chancellor…

As a media person, I recongize its one of so many effective advertisements from the Obama campaign. That it’s on YouTube says a lot. Technically, it has an overwhelmingly nice blend of media elements (stills, interviews, video vignettes). The whole piece is warm and pro-America.

But on the other hand, it’s rife with stereotypes of Americans. Like the lady who points to the refrigerator shelves assigned to her family members. This system seems to be shown as a bad thing, a sign of hard times – when that’s how plenty of people around the world lives. And, if things are so bad, why is her kid playing organized football? Anyway – that’s nitpicking. I do think Obama will be a catalyst for change. And the way in which he’s utalized new media has changed campaigning forever. I wonder when Europeans – particularly Brussels Eurocrats – will pick up on his techniques.

And speaking of Europe, if it doesn’t work out for Obama in the States, I am quite sure Germany would hire him to be chancellor…

  4. Amazing ad. This is game, set and match for democrats.

However, the skills needed to win an election are not necessarily those that make you a good President. I am afraid the voters are going to be massively deceived.
