One Mexican and One American Student Attacked by Skinheads in Madrid

I am very sad to report that two female students who collaborate in my foundation were attacked by Spanish Neo Nazis this weekend in the Madrid metro station of Bernabeu. One of them is badly injured with a broken jaw. They are in their mid 20’s and were identified as foreigners by the skinhead gang because of their accent (they were both speaking in Spanish).

We are all extremely concerned about this xenofobic anti American incident. One of the victims is of Mexican origin and lives and studies now in Madrid. The other one lives in the States, studies at Syracuse, and is currently studying for 5 months in Madrid. Police reported that skin heads attacks on foreigners is becoming more and more common.

  2. I´ve been seeing xenophobic comments on tv lately and didn´t know where to complain. Maybe somebody can help here.

Specifically, on a program called unan1mous and, to my surprise, on Telecinco´s Aida, last night.

The issue on the first one was that there were 2 participants (it was a reality show) 1 from Argentina (guy) and one from Colombia (girl). My objection to this lousy show was that the panelists, including the host, they all referred to the participants by their first names, except for the “Argentino” and “la Colombiana”. That sounded strange, that every time they spoke about these two characters they referred to them by their nationality. Then it was the obvious which, even though it was clearly part of the show (I mean, everybody was getting paid to appear on tv, for sure), they should have refrained from using cliches and steretypes. The “Argentino” was pretentious and sweet talker, and the “Colombiana” was as hot as whatever is hot in your mind.

Last night, Aida´s character Txema had handcuffed himself to a bar´s shutter, as a form to complain for the owner´s exploiting of 2 South American assistants/waiters, etc. Everything was ok until the joke turned into a very low blow and the owner of the bar threatened to call the police and, obviously, the 2 inmigrants, who didn´t have papers got scared and decided to stop supporting Txema´s cause, to which Txema said, openly “Fucking Sudacas!” Just like that.

Now, and as I continue to ellaborate, I would like to find someone who knows where to present a claim to stop this type of things.

The worst part of all is that I almost don´t watch tv, so I guess it must be filled with and full of these things…

    Thanks.

  5. My best wishes to the two individuals involved. This sort of attack patently disgusts me.

  6. Terrible. Is there a general trend for xenophobic crimes in Spain, or is this an isolated incident?
