Skype On Your Nokia? Use Fring

It´s been a long time that I have been wanting to use Skype on my beloved Nokia N80 Symbian phone (disclosure, Skype is my partner at FON and I am on the internet advisory board of Nokia).

Fring has found a way to do this. I just tested it and it worked beautifully. For FON these developments are great, because they give more reasons for people to look for FONspots and make free calls.

  2. Martin,

I’d appreciate it if you’d explain how FON Bills can profit from Skype, Fring and all kind of gadgets that cannot pinpoint a payment with a specific Bill.

Will you pay Bill’s a pro ratio fee for tickets that were payed without using a Bill’s wifi access ? (just suggesting….)

  4. Well, when the Skype handsets come with integrated smartclients (like the one my employer, Devicescape, is currently beta testing), then Bills will automatically get the benefit of the revenue share the same way as they do with laptops, or other browser enabled devices today. Or were you thinking of something different?

  5. Hi Martin,

Also check out Yeigo, a startup by 3 South African graduates that uses a fraction of the bandwidth Skype uses!

In South Africa, a mobile phone call normally costs about 25 Euro cents per minute… That’s a LOT of money in Africa! Yeigo brings this down to about 2 cents!

(I wrote about Yeigo here: http://www.yeahfi.com/2007/05/yeahfi-mate-of-week-vo3g.html)
