I second David Oliver's suggestion (post #3) for an offline map of some sort. Good ideas.

Is starnge that after the well done presentation in Japan you only have 198 foneros...
Do you think is a good country for Fon??? because I listen that actually they have a internet net all around Japan, so if you want you pay a small fee per month and you can connect anywhere.

How useful is it to show active Fon hotspots on a map unless the user can access this info when they arrive in a new location? Perhaps the map could be saved and downloaded as a jpeg file or a list of hotspots with addresses and minimaps can be saved as a pdf file - click a box next to each hotspot that you choose and the info can be packaged into a downloadable file for when you go travelling.

Or are you planning to make the Fon maps plus info about user charges available for free from a Fon hotspot without the user having to login (like many commercial hotspots do now)? They still need to find a Fon hotspot though.

You could also incorporate a user feedback/ rating system into the hotspot locator system so that users could rate hotspots on quality of connection, convenience of location, download speed etc and new users could then decide where to go to get online.

BTW, the numbers above are not the same for Spain and the U.S. - there are 10 more in Spain. ;-)

It is great to know that FON is growing so quickly. It would be great to have free wifi everywhere and I wish you good luck in your endeavour.

Martin,

I signed up as a fonero recently. Thanks for the great job. My only concern is - my fon router is in a residential area. So if people want to use my service how will they access it? I mean, where will they sit? I think I may have to put a table/chair outside my apt (on the sidewalk) every day because people are not going to sit on the floor and surf the net. Some of the people I know who signed up have the same conecerns, we are not in a busy area where there is a coffee shop next door or something.

Actually I think it will be good if fon cam market like a folding table/chair (all weather purpose). You can charge a fee for that. I think it will be a win-win for the foneros and fon
